ED questions Dr. Farooq Abdullah for three hours in connection with a financial scam in JKCA.
National Conference President and former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for about three and a half hours at its local office on Tuesday.
Dr. Abdullah was questioned in connection with the alleged financial scam in the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA).
The ED has registered a case in connection with money laundering in this scam.
Giving a political color to the ED’s inquiry, Dr. Abdullah said that till the assembly elections are not held in Jammu and Kashmir, we will be harassed.
Dr. Farooq Abdullah has been the chairman of JKCA continuously from the year 2001 to 2012. During his tenure as chairman, there was a financial scam in JKCA between 2004 and 2009.
From 2002 to December 2011, JKCA had received funds of about Rs 112.33 crore from BCCI.
Dr. Abdullah had provided financial officers to some JKCA functionaries, allegedly ignoring the rules.
Six new bank accounts were opened in spite of JKCA already having regular and lawful bank accounts.
Apart from this, a dormant bank account of JKCA was also revived so that the financial scam could be carried out easily.
After the scam came to light in March 2012, a complaint was lodged with the police on the instructions of the then Chairman of JKCA, Dr. Farooq Abdullah.
In this, the former secretary and treasury officer of JKCA were made accused.
Later this case was investigated by the Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police and in the year 2015, the CBI took over the investigation.
Taking cognizance of transactions worth crores of rupees, the ED also started an investigation in this case.
In July 2018, the CBI had also filed a charge sheet in the court against four people, including Dr. Farooq.
The ED has also provisionally attached properties of Ahsan Mirza and Mir Manzoor Ghazanfar worth about Rs 11 crore apart from the immovable assets of Dr. Farooq Abdullah worth about Rs 12 crore in this case.
According to the ED, Dr. Farooq Abdullah has also directly benefited from this scam. ED has questioned Dr. Farooq Abdullah twice before.
ED questions Dr. Farooq Abdullah: Abdullah, the Lok Sabha MP from Srinagar, reached the ED office at Rajbagh at 11 am.
Before going inside, the former chief minister spoke to reporters and linked the inquiry to the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that I will not say much about this, elections are to be held in Jammu and Kashmir and till then they will continue to harass us like this.
After about three and a half hours when he came out of the ED office. There was no tension on his face, but he refused to talk to the media personnel standing at the bar.
Meanwhile, NC spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar said that Dr. Farooq Abdullah was the first to register an FIR with the police while uncovering the scam.
He is being implicated in this case due to political bias. He has nothing to hide. He will continue to cooperate with the ED officials as before.
