Drivers and operators of TNSTC will get behavioral training, After complaints from women: Tamil Nadu government.

The drivers and operators of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation buses will be trained in good behavior towards women.

After the announcement of free travel for women in government buses by the state government, hundreds of complaints are being received on a daily basis from various bus stations regarding the humiliation of women.

Sudha Selvaraj, an employee of a private company in Trichy, told the news agency, “We are being treated like second-class citizens in Tamil Nadu buses.

I feel humiliated to hear the abuses of bus drivers and conductors. I have sent a complaint to the Transport Minister of Tamil Nadu and if no action is taken, will try to send a letter to the Chief Minister.

The Transport Minister of Tamil Nadu, R.S. Rajakanappan told the news agency, “It is unfortunate and I have also received some complaints.

Ministry of Transport will organize training programs on behavior towards women for drivers and conductors and classes will be given by eminent social scientists.

Classes will be conducted at the district level.

The transport department will take strict action against those bus employees who have insulted and abused women and police will also register cases and take action accordingly.

At the same time, the state government and the Tamil Nadu transport department had organized several workshops on behavioral science, but it seems to have not helped.

Speaking to a 70-year-old woman in Triplicane, Chennai, Mahalakshmi said, ‘Whenever I board the bus, the driver insults me.

They used to make lewd comments that we are guests and that the Tamil Nadu government has done a wrong thing by providing free rides to women. Girls are subjected to more teasing and humiliation.

In some cases, women have filed complaints with the police.

Helen Antony, who works as a helper in a school in Chennai, told the news agency, “I have lodged a complaint at the police station against a bus conductor for insulting me for a long time.

The police have asked me to speak before the SHO. I will not take back the complaint.

The government which has announced a scheme with good intentions is suffering because of the behavior of some people. There should be a solution to this problem.
