Death Penalty of Omar Sheikh May Be Reinstated: Pakistan

Death penalty may be reinstated in Pearl murder case; Supreme court receives letter of confession of terrorist: Pakistan.

The hearing in the Supreme Court of the murder of American journalist Daniel Pearl in Pakistan has again taken a dramatic turn. A letter written by the hand of Ahmed Saeed Umar Sheikh, the notorious militant involved in the murder, is found in the documents of the trial.

In which he confesses that he had a role in Pearl’s murder, but it was very limited. Now Pearl’s lawyer has demanded that his conviction be upheld.

Death penalty: High court had waived the sentence

It may be noted that the Sindh High Court had waived the sentence given by the lower court of the four terrorists, including the infamous Umar Sheikh.

Also ordered to be released. Pakistan came to the backfoot after severe criticism internationally for this decision.

Now the hearing of this case is going on in the Supreme Court. Journalist Pearl’s parents have appealed in the Supreme Court.

The letter changed the whole picture

Advocate Faisal Siddiqui, who has pleaded for Pearl, has said that Omar Sheikh’s handwritten letter has changed the whole picture now after he was hanged and then released from the High Court after an 18-year sentence.

In this letter, he has admitted that he was involved in the murder of Daniel Pearl. Lawyer Siddiqui says that earlier he was clearly refusing to join the incident.

He said that he does not even know Pearl. He also said this in his interview.

Sheikh involved in murder

It has been proved from this letter that he was involved in the murder, now he will be demanded to retain his death sentence.

Surprisingly, through a letter in the lower court, admitting the crime, he pleaded to reduce the sentence and the court released him completely.

Who is Umar Sheikh

It is known that this is the same terrorist Umar Sheikh, who had to be released in 1999 in Kandahar in lieu of leaving the Air India aircraft.

Daniel Pearl, 38, was head of the South Asia bureau of the Wall Street Journal. In 2002, he was beheaded by terrorists while making news to reveal the network of terrorists in Pakistan.
