Kozhikode Plane Crash: Non-compliance of SOP is a possible reason for the plane crash.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) on Saturday released the investigation report into the plane crash at Kozhikode airport in August last year. At least 20 people were killed and many others were injured in the accident.
The report said that non-compliance with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) by the pilot could be the probable cause of the accident.
But the role of systemic failures as a contributing factor cannot be overlooked.
On August 7 last year, an Air India Express B737-800 aircraft had crashed at the Kozhikode airport in Kerala. The plane was coming from Dubai and had veered off the runway at the airport.
Then it was torn to pieces. 190 people were on board this plane. At least 20 people, including both pilots, were killed and several others were injured.
The report, released almost a year after the accident, says the probable cause of the accident was non-compliance of SOPs by the PF (Pilot Flying).
According to the report, the pilot continued the unstable approach and landed the plane ahead of the landing zone.
Landed on half the runway. Despite this, the Pilot Monitoring (PM) had asked the aircraft to go around.
Minister of State for Civil Aviation VK Singh had told the Lok Sabha that the final compensation proposal has been sent to the immediate relatives of those killed in the accident, but no one has given their approval so far.
Out of the 165 injured, 73 passengers have accepted the offer, who have been paid an overall compensation of Rs 60.35 crore.
The then Minister of State for Civil Aviation Hardeep Singh Puri had announced a payment of Rs 10 lakh to the next of kin of each of the deceased, Rs 2 lakh to the seriously injured, and Rs 50,000 to those with minor injuries as interim relief.
