Naqvi said that 1 August is the day on which Muslim women were freed from the social evil of triple divorce and it has been recorded as Muslim Women’s Rights Day in the history of the country.

Targeting Congress

He said that there was a shortage in the Congress party. He said that triple divorce was neither Islamic, nor legal, but despite this, Congress gives this social evil political protection for the vote bank.

He said that the law against triple talaq could have been passed in 1980 when the Supreme Court gave a historic verdict in the Shahbano case.

He said the Congress had an absolute majority in Parliament with over 400 out of 545 Lok Sabha members and 159 out of 245 members in Rajya Sabha. But the Rajiv Gandhi government used its power in Parliament to make the Supreme Court’s decision ineffective.
