Central team visits Bengal to investigate violence after elections. The four-member team, headed by an additional secretary of the ministry, reached Kolkata on Thursday.

A four-member team of the Union Home Ministry, which was on a state visit to investigate the causes of the violence in Bengal since the election results came on May 2, met Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar here on Friday.

According to officials, the team members discussed the violence with the governor at Raj Bhavan in the morning.

However, nothing has been officially saying about what happened between the central team and the governor.

The central team met the state chief secretary, home secretary, and director general of police at the state secretariat Nawan on Thursday before meeting the governor.

Members of the central team had also visited the South 24 Parganas and North 24 Parganas districts and met with the victims’ families and locals.

It may be noted that the Union Home Ministry has also sought a report from the Governor on the law and order situation in the state in view of the incidents of violence after the election results.

At the same time, a day before Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also said that 16 people have been killed in various parts of the state in the post-election violence. Attacked female members, ransacked homes and looted shops.

However, Mamta dismissed the allegations and claimed that the BJP candidates had won the elections in the areas where violence has taken place.

Significantly, the central team will assess the ground situation and can visit Gadkhali, Sundarbans and Jagdal and other places in many areas of the city as well as in the North and South 24 Parganas.

Earlier, the Home Ministry on Wednesday sent a brief reminder to the Bengal government to give detailed reports on post-election violence and to take necessary measures to prevent such incidents without wasting time.

It has also asked Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar to submit a report on the law and order situation in the state, especially on the violence that followed the election results on May 2.
