Central Govt Convenes All-Party Meeting On Afghanistan Issue

Central govt convenes an all-party meeting on the Afghanistan issue, Ministry of External Affairs will give information about the situation.

The central govt has called an all-party meeting on the Afghanistan issue. The government will apprise the parliamentary leaders of various political parties about the developments in war-torn Afghanistan.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to brief the floor leaders of political parties.

Jaishankar tweeted, “In view of the developments in Afghanistan, Minister of State for External Affairs, Shri Narendra Modi has directed the MEA to brief the floor leaders of political parties.”

Central govt convenes an all-party meeting: The government briefing is expected to focus on the mission to evacuate people from Afghanistan as well as an assessment of the situation in that country.

The Taliban have captured almost all major cities and provinces, including Kabul, following the withdrawal of US forces from the country.

In view of the developments in Afghanistan, India has already brought back around 730 people, including members of the Afghan Sikh and Hindu communities.

India on Monday brought back 146 of its citizens in four separate flights from Qatar’s capital Doha.

Days after being evacuated from Afghanistan by NATO and US planes in view of the deteriorating security situation in the war-torn country.

On Sunday, 392 people, including two Afghan lawmakers, were evacuated on three separate flights. The Taliban captured Kabul on 15 August.

Within two days of the Taliban’s capture of Kabul, India had evacuated 200 people, including Indian envoys and other embassy staff in the Afghan capital.

On August 16, the first flight brought back more than 40 people, mostly employees of the Indian embassy.

The second plane had brought back about 150 people, including Indian diplomats, officials, security personnel, and some stranded Indians, from Kabul on 17 August.
