On Friday, the Ministry of Home Affairs has invited applications for granting citizenship to non-Muslims such as Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan living in 13 districts.

In this, applications have been sought for Indian citizenship to non-Muslims living in 13 districts including Gujarat, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Haryana and Punjab.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification to this effect for immediate implementation of the order under the Citizenship Act 1955 and the rules made under the law in 2009.

However, the government is yet to formulate the rules under the amended Citizenship Act (CAA) implemented in 2019.

When the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) came into force in 2019, there were widespread protests in different parts of the country and there were riots in Delhi in early 2020 amid these protests.

According to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan will be granted citizenship to oppressed minority non-Muslims who had arrived in India by 31 December 2014.

In the notification of the Ministry of Home Affairs, it has been said that the Central Government has taken this step under Section 5 of the Act, using the powers found under Section 16 of the Citizenship Act 1955.

Under this, instructions have been given to register Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian people of minority communities of Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan living in the above mentioned states and districts as Indian citizens.

Two Bangladeshis accused of gang-rape and cruelty, were shot in the leg by the police, six were arrested.

Police arrested two Bangladeshis arrested on charges of gang-rape and tried to flee when they tried to escape. Police said that during an inspection of the scene, the accused attacked him and tried to escape.

Police sources said both have been identified as Hridoy and Sagar. Both are around 20 years of age.

Sources said that the police, along with four people, including the arrested accused, went to the rented house to investigate the incident.

During this, both of them attacked the police and tried to escape. Both were shot in the leg and caught. Both are currently undergoing treatment in a government hospital.
