Center Should Implement OROP As Per Koshyari Committee

Center should implement OROP as per the recommendation of the Koshyari committee, Congress demanded.

Congress on Saturday said that the One Rank, One Pension (OROP) scheme should be implemented as per the recommendations of the Koshyari Committee.

The party accused the BJP government of doing vote bank politics on the sacrifice of soldiers.

Congress spokesperson Shaktisinh Gohil said that the UPA-II government had accepted the recommendations of the Koshyari Committee on OROP.

But unfortunately, after assuming power in 2014, BJP went back on its promise.

“We demand that the BJP government should immediately implement OROP as per the recommendations of the Koshyari committee,” Gohil told reporters.

He said the government had told Parliament on February 17 and 26, 2014 that it would implement OROP as per the recommendations of the Koshyari committee.

The government should explain why, despite making this promise, it did anything contrary to it on November 7, 2015.

Congress spokesperson Gohil alleged, “It is a matter of regret that this government has changed the interpretation of OROP contrary to the recommendation of the Koshyari Committee and made contrary policy arrangements for our retired soldiers.”

He further said that the government should give reasons for changing the recommendation of the Koshyari committee.

The BJP government should immediately implement OROP as per the recommendation of the Koshyari committee.

Party spokesperson Gohil further said, “It is the responsibility of the government and all of us to safeguard justice, equality, and dignity for our armed forces personnel.

It was in this spirit that the Koshyari Committee was formed. The NDA government had also accepted the report of the committee.

As per its recommendation, OROP should be given to our jawans.

According to Gohil, on February 17, 2014, the Finance Minister of the Modi government had promised in his interim budget speech regarding OROP and the Defense Minister had said the same thing on February 26, 2014.
