CBI reaches Supreme Court against TMC leaders’ house arrest: Narada Sting Operation Case.
The CBI has reached the Supreme Court against the house arrest of four Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders in the Narada sting case.
Also, the CBI has demanded the Calcutta High Court to postpone today’s action. In the High Court, the TMC will hold a large bench hearing on the bail of the leaders.
Significantly, the leaders arrested in the Narada sting operation case showed differences in the judges of the Calcutta High Court on Friday during the hearing of the bail application.
Due to this, the court ordered the arrested leaders to be under house arrest.
On Friday, a bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal differed on the bail granted to Minister Subrata Mukherjee, Minister Firhad Hakim, TMC MLA Madan Mitra, and former Kolkata Mayor Shobhan Chatterjee.
The bench also has Justice Arijit Banerjee, who supported the grant of bail. On the other hand, Acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal opposed it.
Finally, the bench directed the accused leaders to keep house arrest.
The bench has also decided to refer the matter to a five-member Bench in view of differences between Acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice Arijit Banerjee.
It consists of Acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal, Justice Arijit Banerjee, Justice Indraprasann Mukherjee, Justice Harish Tandon, and Justice Soumen Sen.
CBI reaches Supreme Court: Currently, the minister of the Bengal government, Firhad Hakim, is working virtually from home.
Former Kolkata Mayor Shobhan Chatterjee is also under house arrest, while ministers Subrata Mukherjee and Trinamool Congress MLA Madan Mitra are hospitalized.
It is noteworthy that these four leaders were arrested by the CBI in the Narada sting operation tape case. The High Court had stayed the decision to grant bail to all the four leaders of the lower court.
