CBI Raids Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik’s Residence in Kiru Hydro Power Project Corruption Case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided over thirty locations on February 22, including residences connected to former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satyapal Malik.

This operation is part of a probe into suspected corruption totaling Rs 2,200 crore concerning the Kiru Hydro Power Project in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir.

The investigation traces back to 2019, with Satyapal Malik having previously expressed apprehensions about corruption in connection with this project.

Satyapal Malik Reveals Bribery Attempt of Rs 300 Crore.

During his tenure as Governor of Jammu and Kashmir from August 23, 2018, to October 30, 2019, Satyapal Malik disclosed that he was approached with a bribe of Rs 300 crore to expedite the clearance of two files.

Subsequently, the CBI initiated a case in April of the following year.

Continued Investigations and Searches.

The investigative agency had previously conducted searches on three separate occasions at locations associated with various officials and individuals implicated in the case.

Following the registration of the case, the CBI carried out searches at 10 premises in April and at 16 locations in June 2022. Additionally, in May of the same year, searches were conducted at 12 additional places.

Case Registered Against Multiple Officials.

In 2019, the CBI initiated a case based on allegations of irregularities in the awarding of the civil works contract for the Kiru Hydro Electric Power Project (HEP), valued at around Rs 2,200 crore, to a private company.

The agency has named the former chairman of Chenab Valley Power Projects (P) Ltd, Naveen Kumar Choudhary, along with former officials MS Babu, MK Mittal, and Arun Kumar Mishra, as well as Patel Engineering Ltd, in the case.
