CBI Is Conducting Forensic Examination Of Voice Samples

CBI is conducting forensic examination of voice samples in Navy leak case, samples have been sent to CFSL.

The CBI is conducting forensic analysis of voice samples collected during its covert operation to bust an alleged racket of naval officers and businessmen. Sources gave this information on Thursday.

An official with knowledge of the matter said that the agency has sent the voice samples to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) and the results are awaited.

The CBI is probing allegations that confidential information related to the purchase and maintenance of naval equipment was leaked for pecuniary gains, the sources said.

It is also probing allegations of bribery in a deal for landmine-laying equipment from a Hyderabad-based company, Allen Reinforced Plastics Ltd.

The agency had arrested the company’s executive director TP Shastri on September 8 after his alleged role in the bribery came to light, they said.

Officials said the CBI has sought the Centre’s approval for making allegations under the Official Secrets Act in connection with the leak of sensitive documents and other related information related to the purchase of equipment for submarines being considered in the Navy.

On September 2, the central agency had conducted raids against retired naval officers Commodore Randeep Singh and Commander Satwinder Jeet Singh. Both were arrested on the same day.

The FIR alleges that Satwinder Jeet Singh, who was working in the Directorate of Submarine Procurement (DSMAQ), provided regular information to Randeep Singh about internal deliberations relating to tenders for maintenance and procurement of naval equipment in return for monthly payments.

Satwinder had opted for voluntary retirement on July 31.

Sources said the CBI has accused two retired Navy officers of receiving illegal money for themselves and others by sharing secret information on internal tender files related to procurement and maintenance of the Navy with private international companies.
