CBDT Probes False Affidavit Allegations Against Uddhav Thackeray

CBDT probes false affidavit allegations against Uddhav Thackeray and Supriya Sule. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) probes into allegations of filing false affidavits against Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, his minister son Aditya Thackeray and NCP Lok Sabha member Supriya Sule.

Sources said the Election Commission referred the complaint to CBDT about a month ago. It calls for an investigation into the veracity of assets and liabilities shown in electoral affidavits. Presently, the affidavit under Section -125A of the Representation of the People Act provides for a jail term of up to six months or fine or both for a person convicted of lying.

Cognition will be taken on complaints of wrong or false information related to the qualification.

Till June this year, the Election Commission used to ask the complainant to go directly to the court on the issue of alleged false affidavits. But on 16 June, the Commission announced that it would take cognizance of complaints of wrong or false information related to criminal history, assets, and educational qualifications in electoral affidavits and refer them to competent agencies on a case-by-case basis.
Do not consider my silence as weak: Uddhav Thackeray

On the other hand, CM Uddhav Thackeray of Maharashtra addressed the people of the state in the past, amid controversies with Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut. During this time, he neither spoke on the ongoing dispute between Kangana and Shiv Sena nor spoke on the beating of the former Navy officer by the Shiv Sainiks.

At the beginning of his address, he made it clear that he will not talk on political issues today. He said that efforts are being made to discredit the state. Recently I have faced many troubles and will continue to face political cyclone even further, but do not consider my silence as my helplessness.
