Captain Amarinder Meets Amit Shah Amidst Farmers’ Protests

Captain Amarinder meets Amit Shah amidst farmers’ protests, said – solve the problem soon.

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh met Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence on Thursday amid protests over the new agricultural laws.

He then appealed to the Center and the protesting farmers to resolve the deadlock on the new agricultural laws as soon as possible.

He said that the movement is affecting the economy of Punjab and the security of the country. Both sides should not adopt a stubborn attitude in the matter.

He said that he urged the Home Minister to find a quick solution to the issue.

Asked whether he was trying to mediate between the agitating farmers and the central government? The Captain said, “Discussions are going on between the two sides.

I have nothing to solve. I reiterated my opposition in my meeting with the Home Minister and requested him to resolve the issue as it affects the economy of my state and the security of the nation. ‘

CM of Punjab and the Congress Party are supporting the farmers’ opposition and have passed several bills in the state assembly with the objective of ignoring the Agriculture Act of the Center.

He had said that he and his government were willing to mediate negotiations between the Center and the farmers in the collective interest.

Most of the protesting farmers are from Punjab. For the past one week, we have been staging a sit-in on the borders of Delhi.

The farmers have been adamant on repealing the agricultural laws. A meeting between the farmer leaders and the central government on Tuesday was inconclusive.

Farmer unions say the new law will end the minimum support price (MSP), but the government says the system will continue and the law will give farmers more options to sell their crops.

Three rounds of talks have been held so far

Till now three rounds of talks have been held between the farmers’ organizations and the Center regarding the new agricultural laws. No results have been made.

In such a situation, all eyes are on the fourth tour meeting to be held today. During the talks on Tuesday, the proposal of the government to set up a joint committee was rejected by the farmer leaders.

He said that the movement would be continued till any outcome of the talks came. During this, talks between the farmers’ associations and the government were held for about four hours.
