Bombay High Court Refuses To Quash ED Summons

Bombay High Court refuses to quash ED summons issued to Anil Deshmukh.

The Bombay High Court on Friday dismissed a petition filed by former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh seeking quashing of summons issued by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The ED had issued summons to Deshmukh asking him to appear in the alleged money laundering and corruption case.

The High Court said that Deshmukh had failed to make out a case for quashing the summons.

It further said that the former minister’s plea does not qualify for an order restraining the ED and CBI from taking any coercive action against him.

However, the court further said that if Deshmukh fears his arrest in this case, he has the right to approach the appropriate court like a common man to avoid it.

Bombay High Court refuses to quash ED summons: High Court gave this direction to ED.

The High Court directed the ED to allow Deshmukh’s counsel to stay in his office at such a distance during interrogation that they can see each other but their voices cannot be heard.

The CBI had registered an FIR against the NCP leader on April 21 following allegations of corruption.

Based on this FIR, the ED started an investigation against Deshmukh and others and summoned them for questioning.

The CBI FIR was registered after a preliminary inquiry into allegations of corruption leveled against Deshmukh by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh.

CBI raids Anil Deshmukh’s Mumbai and Nagpur residences.

Apart from Deshmukh’s house in Mumbai, the CBI team recently raided the Nagpur residence of Anil Deshmukh and searched the entire house and office.

On hearing the news of the raid on Deshmukh’s house, a large number of NCP workers gathered outside his house and started raising slogans against the Central Government and the CBI.

But the search operation of CBI continued for a long time. The CBI is investigating Anil Deshmukh on the directions of the Mumbai High Court.

The probe was initiated by the High Court after former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh accused him of getting Rs 100 crore recovered every month with the help of police officials.
