BJP’s Rahul Narvekar becomes speaker, Shinde wins the first test of assembly; Shiv Sena office sealed.
The first session of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly began today after Eknath Shinde became the Chief Minister.
Voting took place on the first day of the two-day special session of the Legislative Assembly to choose the new Speaker of the Assembly. BJP alliance candidate Rahul Narvekar has won the Speaker’s election.
After toppling the Uddhav government, Eknath Shinde won the first-floor test in the assembly.
BJP’s Rahul Narvekar has been appointed as the new speaker in the assembly. BJP got more than 164 votes, while Shiv Sena’s Rajan Salvi got 107 votes.
On the demand of the opposition, the Deputy Speaker started the counting of MLAs.
There are 287 MLAs in the assembly and a magic figure of 144 was needed to win. However, only 273 MLAs participated in the voting.
Two MLAs each from SP and AIMIM did not take part in the voting. AIMIM MLAs did not vote for anyone.
The Samajwadi Party abstained from voting in the Speaker’s election. Two SP MLAs did not vote for anyone.
Shiv Sena’s office is sealed.
Eknath Shinde faction has completely captured Shiv Sena. Meanwhile, when elections are to be held for the post of Speaker of the Legislative Assembly in Maharashtra today, the office of Shiv Sena present here has also been sealed.
However, it is not yet clear on the behest of which group this office has been sealed. It is written in the notice that the office has been sealed by the Shiv Sena Legislature Party.

45 years old Rahul Narvekar is a lawyer by profession. His father Suresh Narvekar was a councilor in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
His brother Makrand has become a councilor for the second time from ward number 227 of BMC. His sister-in-law Harshata is also a councilor from ward number 226 of BMC.
Rahul Narvekar was in Shiv Sena before 2014, but did not get a Lok Sabha ticket, then left the party and joined NCP. In 2014, he contested the Maval Lok Sabha seat but was defeated.
Narvekar then joined the BJP. In 2016, Narvekar reached the Legislative Council from Governor’s quota. At the same time, in the 2019 assembly elections, he won the Coloba assembly seat.
