BJP Announces Candidates for Assembly By-Elections in Four States; Champai Soren’s Son Gets Key Ticket

BJP Announces Candidates for Assembly By-Elections in Four States: The BJP has released its list of candidates for the upcoming assembly by-elections in Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Telangana. Champai Soren’s son, Babulal Soren, gets the party ticket for Ghatsila. Voting will be held on November 11 and counting on November 14.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially announced its list of candidates for the upcoming assembly by-elections across four states—Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Telangana. The announcement has stirred significant political discussions, especially after the inclusion of Champai Soren’s son, Babulal Soren, in the list of nominees.

Jammu and Kashmir

According to the list released by the BJP headquarters on Wednesday, the party has nominated Aga Syed Mohsin and Devyani Rana to contest from Budgam and Nagrota assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, respectively. The BJP hopes to strengthen its foothold in the Union Territory, where political activities have gained momentum ahead of the by-elections.

In Jharkhand, the party has fielded Babulal Soren, son of Jharkhand’s former Chief Minister Champai Soren, from the Ghatsila seat, which is reserved for Scheduled Tribes. This move is being seen as a strategic effort to appeal to tribal voters in the region. Babulal Soren’s nomination marks a significant moment, as it places the BJP in direct competition with the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), which also draws strong support from tribal communities.

For Odisha, the BJP has nominated Jai Dholakia from the Nuapada assembly seat. The party aims to make significant inroads in the western part of the state, where it has been steadily gaining ground against the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). Dholakia, known for his grassroots connect and development initiatives, is expected to give the BJD a strong contest.

Meanwhile, in Telangana, the BJP has fielded Lankala Deepak Reddy from the Jubilee Hills constituency. Reddy’s selection is seen as part of the BJP’s broader strategy to expand its urban voter base and challenge the dominance of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in the state’s key constituencies.

The Election Commission of India

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has scheduled voting for November 11, 2025, across eight assembly constituencies spanning Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Jharkhand, Mizoram, Punjab, Telangana, and Rajasthan. The counting of votes will take place on November 14, 2025, and the results are expected to set the tone for the upcoming 2026 assembly elections in several states.

Political analysts believe the BJP’s latest candidate list reflects a targeted regional strategy, focusing on local leadership and influential community figures. The inclusion of Babulal Soren, in particular, has caught national attention, as it highlights the BJP’s attempt to tap into tribal and youth leadership to consolidate its presence in Jharkhand.

BJP Announces Candidates for Assembly By-Elections: A senior BJP spokesperson

A senior BJP spokesperson commented, “Our candidates represent the aspirations of the people in their respective constituencies. The party is confident that the voters will support the BJP’s vision for development and good governance.”

The by-elections come at a crucial time when several states are witnessing shifting political alliances and emerging voter trends. With campaigning set to begin soon, all major parties, including the Congress, BJD, BRS, and JMM, are gearing up for an intense electoral battle.

The results on November 14 are likely to offer valuable insights into public sentiment ahead of the 2026 state polls.
