Amid demands for repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said there may be some positive developments this year regarding AFSPA.

Let us inform that after the loss of lives of civilians in the action of security forces in the Mon district of Nagaland, there has been a demand for the removal of AFSPA from the northeastern states.

AFSPA is applicable in this state also. He said that due to the weakening of militancy, the army has been withdrawn from the state except in five-six districts of Assam.

Now this year AFSPA will be reviewed and then the state government will take a practical decision.

Tripura: Security tightened in India-Bangladesh border areas, Prime Minister’s visit on January 4.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Tripura on Tuesday, January 4. In view of this, special arrangements have been made regarding the security arrangements there.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also said that the Prime Minister will go to the Swami Vivekananda Stadium in Agartala and address the public meeting.

Fencing work on the border will be completed by next year.

The Indo-Bangladesh border in Tripura will be completely fenced by next year. Fencing has already been done in 80-85% of the 856 km long international border in the state.

BSF Inspector General (Tripura Frontier) Sushant Kumar Nath said, “The fencing work was done in the eastern region of Tripura last year.

During this, fencing was put in the sensitive part of 31 km. In the western region of the state also, the work of fencing was completed in 10 km.

Along with fencing, the work of installing ‘flood lights’ is also going on, the official said. We also hope to complete the installation of floodlights across the border by next year.

At the same time, on militancy in the state, he said that since 2017 till now 31 insurgents of National Liberation Front of Tripura have surrendered.
