Anti-Conversion Bill Passed In Karnataka Assembly

Anti-conversion bill passed in Karnataka assembly amid uproar by opposition.

Amid uproar by the opposition, the Karnataka Assembly on Thursday passed the Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Bill, 2021, or the Anti-Conversion Bill.

This bill will protect the right to freedom of religion, as well as prevent illegal conversion from one religion to another.

Bill was introduced in 2016.

In the Karnataka Assembly, State Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister JC Madhuswamy went on record saying that the bill was actually introduced by the Siddaramaiah-led government in 2016.

In this case, Siddaramaiah alleged that the bill proposed in 2016, was completely different from the one prepared by the current government.

The neglected section of the society will get security.

Talking about the backward section of the society, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said, “We know the condition of SC and ST class.

Because of their constant neglect, that class has always been neglected and weak. The purpose of bringing this bill is to ensure the protection of SC, ST communities, and women.

Opposition’s constant opposition to the bill.

During the discussion on the bill in the assembly, Karnataka Rural Development, and Panchayat Raj Minister K.S. Eshwarappa said, “We all belong to the RSS and yes we have borrowed from the RSS.

The RSS has taught us to protect the country, religion, and culture. That is why we have brought this bill from that culture.

It is worth mentioning that The Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Bill, 2021 was introduced in the Assembly by Home Minister Araga Gyanendra on Tuesday amid a dramatic walkout by the Karnataka Congress.

Congress party state president DK Shivakumar tore a copy of the bill before the walkout. State Congress Party and leaders of other religions have been continuously opposing this bill.
