This information has been received from the question asked under RTI.

According to an RTI reply given to Pune-based activist Prafulla Sarda, from 2010 to February 2021, there were 14,411 incidents of cross-border shelling in which 267 people lost their lives.

According to the reply given by Sulekha, Director (S-JK) and CPIO in the Home Ministry.

Sarada said that a total of 138 security personnel lost their lives in the deaths recorded at the border.

This includes 20 deaths between 2010-2014 and 118 from 2015 to February 2021, nearly six times over seven years.

The same is the case with 129 civilian deaths, which increased from 18 (2010-2014) to 111 in 2015 to February this year. This is a six-fold jump in figures.

It has been learned through RTI that 664 jawans suffered injuries during this period. Of these, 97 were injured during 2010-2014 and the remaining 567 soldiers during 2015 to February 2021.

Sarda says the RTI disclosures have revealed how borders have become unsafe for both the security forces and the civilian population under NDA Prime Minister Narendra Modi as compared to the UPA tenure of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
