Afghan Army Recaptured A District In Herat Province

Afghan army recaptured a district in Herat province amid retaliatory conflict with the Taliban.

Afghan security forces launched a counter-offensive in Herat province on Friday and the army recaptured Karukh district.

In retaliation, 15 Taliban militants were killed. The retaliation between the Taliban and the army began in the early hours of Friday and the militants were dispersed within hours.

The security forces got special help in this encounter.

Giving information about the restoration of law and order there, Xinhua news agency quoted a provincial government.

“At least 15 Taliban fighters have been killed and 20 others have been injured.” This operation of the army will continue in the area, for now, the statement said.

The Taliban militants have captured more than a dozen districts in Herat province in the past month.

A spokesman for Afghanistan’s Defense Ministry said government forces would soon launch a retaliatory strike on every district held by the Taliban.

Significantly, on May 1, the withdrawal of US-led forces from Afghanistan has begun.

Tajikistan has ordered its army to be ready at the border. About 2.30 lakh soldiers have been kept ready for this. This has been ordered by President Emomali Rakhmon.

About 20 thousand soldiers have been deployed in the capital Dushanbe itself. It has been named the biggest security exercise since the separation from the Soviet Union.
