Andhra Pradesh: Police seized gutka worth Rs 8 lakh in Guntur, police arrested 5 people. On August 28, a team from Peda Kakani police station raided the office of a gutkha and pan masala making unit here and seized a banned substance gutkha worth about eight lakh rupees. According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Guntur (Urban), RN Ammi Reddy, the police team conducted raids based on reliable information and also detained the main accused Kameswara Rao along with four others.
“There is a ban on chewable tobacco products in Andhra Pradesh. Guntur Urban Police is conducting raids. A Kameshwar Rao from this district has been active in the business. The Peda Kakani police obtained reliable information about Kameswara Rao’s business and on Friday Raided at his stock point, Reddy told reporters that during that raid, tobacco products worth about Rs 8 lakh were seized. He further said that two vehicles used for transporting gutkha were also seized by the police team that the accused would be produced in the court.
Meanwhile, In another incident in Guntur, a woman jumped herself after throwing her 9-month-old baby from the building. In this accident, the infant has died on the spot. While in the hospital, the woman also died during treatment. As of now, the reason behind this incident has not been revealed. The police have started investigating the entire case.
According to police, the woman’s family has raised doubts over the manner of death and an FIR has been registered in connection with the case. Sub Inspector Y Satyanarayana of Pattabhipuram Police Station said that a 29-year-old woman, Narra Manoj, a resident of Kamlesh Grand Apartments in Laxmipuram in Guntur city, first threw her daughter off the roof of her building and then jumped five stories.
“The incident took place at around 8 am on Saturday. The girl died on the spot. The woman died in hospital,” the police officer said. The police have registered a case of suspicious death under the provisions of the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and have started an investigation into the case.
