Panneerselvam Called The Meeting Of AIADMK, Violation Of Rules

Panneerselvam called the meeting of AIADMK a violation of rules and said- has not been approved for this meeting.

The meeting of top leaders of AIADMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) on Monday at the party headquarters in Chennai has been termed as a violation by the party’s convener O Panneerselvam.

He said that for this meeting the consent of both the coordinator and the co-coordinator is necessary.

This new matter has come to the fore amidst the ongoing controversy over single leadership in AIADMK.

The dispute is between former Tamil Nadu chief minister and party co-convenor Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) and his former deputy chief minister and convener O Panneerselvam (OPS).

Party treasurer OPS said that being the convener of AIADMK, no approval has been given for this meeting. In such a situation, if the meeting takes place then it will be a violation of the rules.

Tamil Magan Hussain was appointed as the chairman of AIADMK at the party’s general council meeting on 23 June.

In the meeting, 23 proposals were rejected and the date of July 11 was fixed for the next meeting.

Till 2016, former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa remained the only leader of the AIADMK.  She died in 2016 when the party had decided to appoint OPS to the post of Chief Minister.

At the same time, in the state elections held in February 2017, the AIADMK suffered a crushing defeat, and Jayalalithaa’s close aide Sasikala took the decision of leadership.

After this OPS was removed from the post of Chief Minister and this post was given to EPS. This triggered a lot of trouble within the AIADMK.

After some time OPS was appointed as the convener of AIADMK and EPS as co-convener. AIADMK was being run with dual leadership.

But now there is a demand to change it to a single leadership and all eyes are on the General Council meeting to be held on July 11.
