World Bank Funded Projects Closed In Afghanistan

World Bank funded projects closed in Afghanistan, fears of an increase in poverty and unemployment rate in the country.

About seven thousand projects being run for the internal development of Afghanistan are in limbo.

After the capture of power by the terrorist organization Taliban in the country, all the plans have been called off.

These schemes were being operated under the Citizen’s Charter National Priority Programme.

Most of the schemes were funded by the World Bank and were being run to reduce poverty, improve socio-economic conditions and prevent youth migration.

Thousands of schemes are stuck in the balance.

The country’s Finance Ministry issued a statement on Monday saying that the nationwide schemes launched in 2016 were divided into three phases.

The first phase of the program was expected to end in late 2022. About US$ 100 million was released for the first phase of the program to implement around 12,000 projects across the country.

But about seven thousand of the schemes launched are in limbo. A Finance Ministry spokesperson said that they are trying to approach the World Bank to complete the unfinished plans.

Significantly, thousands of small and big projects were implemented under the Citizen’s Charter National Priority Program for about ten years.

But after the Taliban captured power in Afghanistan, all plans have been called off.
